Track the hours you put into your habits
what-i-did is a habit tracker built on time tracking, not checkmarks. Start a timer when you begin, stop it when you’re done, and watch a heatmap fill in with where your hours actually went.

A checkbox can’t tell five minutes from five hours
Most habit trackers only ask whether you showed up. That is worth knowing, but it hides the thing that actually compounds: how long you stayed. Ninety minutes of guitar on Tuesday and five minutes on Wednesday both earn the same tick.
Measured in hours, the difference is impossible to miss. You can see the weeks you practised seriously and the weeks you barely touched it, which is the first thing you need before you can change either.
How it works
Create a category
Guitar, deep work, reading, Spanish — name the habits you want more of and give each one a colour.
Start the timer
One tap when you begin, one tap when you stop. Forget to stop and you can correct the entry afterwards, or turn on the stop confirmation and the app asks first.
Read the heatmap
Every hour you track lights up a cell. Days become weeks and weeks become months, so the shape of your effort is visible at a glance.
Everything you need to see where your time goes
One-tap timer
Starting a habit takes a single tap. No forms, no notes, no friction between deciding and doing.
Hour-by-hour heatmap
Each cell is one hour, shaded by how much you logged. Read a row for a single day, or a month for the bigger picture.
Any range you want
Today, the last seven days, a month at a time, or a custom range you pick yourself.
Colour-coded categories
Track as many habits as you like, each with its own colour carried across every view.
Written insights
Periodic summaries tell you which habits grew, which slipped, and what changed between them.
Nothing to install
It runs in your browser on any device. Add it to your home screen and it behaves like an app.
Questions about what-i-did
- Is what-i-did free?
- Yes. Create an account and track as many habits as you like at no cost — there is no paid tier and no credit card required.
- How is this different from a normal habit tracker?
- Most habit trackers record whether you did something. what-i-did records how long you did it for, so a five-minute session and a three-hour session are not treated as the same achievement.
- What happens if I forget to stop the timer?
- The timer keeps running until you stop it, and you can correct any entry's start and end times afterwards. If you would rather be asked, turn on the stop confirmation and the app checks with you before ending a session.
- What does the heatmap show me?
- Each cell is one hour of one day, coloured by how much time you logged in that category. Read along a row to see the shape of a single day, or across a month to find the weeks where you lost momentum.
- Can I track more than one habit?
- Yes. Create a separate category for each habit — reading, guitar, running, deep work — give each one a colour, and the heatmap and dashboard break your hours down by category.
- Does it work on my phone?
- what-i-did runs in the browser, so it works on any phone, tablet or computer. Add it to your home screen and the timer is one tap away.
- Who can see my data?
- Only you. Your categories and time entries belong to your account and are never shown to anyone else.
